Transforming Lives Through Comprehensive Cleft Care
At the International Cleft Care Project (ICCP), we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to speak clearly, smile freely, and live confidently—regardless of where they are born or their financial situation. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, our mission extends across borders, bringing hope and healing to children and families affected by cleft lip and palate disorders around the world.
Each smile restored is a story of courage, compassion, and connection—and we are honored to walk that journey with every patient..
A Global Network with a Personal Touch
Our dedicated team of surgeons, dentists, speech pathologists, social workers, volunteers, and partners come together with one shared vision: a world where no child suffers because of where they were born. Through outreach missions, sustainable care models, and community-based education, we empower families and transform futures.
Our Story
The Journey of Healing, Hope, and Humanity
At the International Cleft Care Project (ICCP), we are driven by a single, unwavering mission: to ensure that every child and adult born with cleft lip or palate has access to the care, compassion, and support they deserve—no matter where they live.
Founded on the belief that healthcare is a human right, ICCP provides comprehensive cleft care services to underserved communities around the world. Our programs extend beyond surgery. We focus on the full continuum of care—medical treatment, dental services, speech therapy, nutrition counseling, and psychosocial support—because true healing is about restoring confidence, function, and dignity.
We began our journey after witnessing the emotional and physical challenges faced by children in low-resource countries where cleft conditions often go untreated due to poverty, lack of trained professionals, or cultural stigma. These children are often isolated, struggle to eat and speak, and are excluded from education and social connection. ICCP was created to change that story—one child, one family, one smile at a time.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our reach to include partners, hospitals, and community health workers across continents. Through mobile clinics, global volunteer missions, and the empowerment of local healthcare systems, we have impacted thousands of lives. We train surgeons, equip operating rooms, and build local capacity to ensure sustainable change.
Our work is about more than medical procedures—it’s about changing futures. Every cleft surgery is a turning point. Every word spoken clearly for the first time is a victory. Every smile restored is a symbol of hope renewed.
At ICCP, we measure our success not just by numbers, but by the joy on a child’s face, the relief in a mother’s eyes, and the dignity restored to every life we touch. We are committed to a future where no child suffers the consequences of an untreated cleft condition.
We are International Cleft Care Project. We are hope, healing, and humanity in action.
1. Where It All Began
The International Cleft Care Project (ICCP) was born out of a simple, yet powerful idea: that no child should be denied a smile because of where they were born or what their family could afford. Our founders—doctors, nurses, and advocates—witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by children with cleft lip and palate in underserved regions. From crowded hospitals with long waitlists to communities with no access to surgical care, the need was overwhelming. But where there was need, there was also resolve. In 2010, ICCP began as a grassroots mission to bring cleft care to areas where it was needed most.
2. A Mission in Motion
What started as a small network of volunteers quickly grew into a coordinated global effort. With partnerships across continents, our team began organizing cleft surgery missions, equipping local hospitals, and training medical professionals. Our mobile outreach units reached remote areas, delivering not just treatment but also education and follow-up care. From the start, our mission was clear: holistic healing. Cleft care doesn’t end with a surgery—it begins there. That’s why our programs always include dental health, speech therapy, and psychosocial counseling.

3. Expanding with Compassion and Expertise
As our reach expanded, so did our team. Today, ICCP includes surgeons, dentists, anesthesiologists, speech pathologists, social workers, and volunteers from all walks of life. With every mission trip and every child treated, we refined our model to be more inclusive, more sustainable, and more empowering. We’ve partnered with universities, global health organizations, and local governments to bring permanent cleft care programs to dozens of underserved regions. Our work is guided by the belief that the highest quality care should be available to every child, not just the privileged few.
4. Empowering Local Providers
One of our proudest achievements is our focus on sustainability. We don’t just provide temporary solutions—we invest in long-term change. By training local surgeons, equipping clinics, and developing community-based speech and dental care programs, we ensure that our impact lasts beyond our presence. ICCP has created a legacy of local leadership, helping countries establish their own cleft care systems that are compassionate, competent, and culturally rooted.
5. Stories That Inspire Us
Every child we help has a story. Like Emmanuel from Nigeria, who could barely speak before ICCP provided surgery and therapy—today, he reads aloud in school with joy. Or Alia from Bangladesh, whose surgery was life-changing not only for her but for her whole village, which now refers other children to our local clinic. These stories keep us grounded and remind us why we exist: to restore dignity, confidence, and hope.
6. The Road Ahead
As we look to the future, our mission continues to grow. We are developing digital health platforms to improve access to cleft care information and post-operative support. We are working to eliminate the stigma around cleft conditions through global awareness campaigns. And we are expanding our reach to new countries, with the goal of treating thousands more children in the coming years.
7. Join Our Journey
The International Cleft Care Project is more than an organization—it is a movement powered by love, skill, and the belief that every child deserves the chance to smile. Whether you are a parent, a volunteer, a healthcare professional, or a donor, your support makes a difference. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind and every story has a beautiful new chapter.
